Camp to Belong Staff & Volunteers
This program for foster children is run entirely by volunteers who work year-round to raise funds to support, maintain and sustain Camp To Belong Oregon, year after year. If you would like to find out more about becoming a volunteer counselor or serve as a volunteer in other meaningful ways:
Contact Director Karyn Schimmels at 971-219-4434 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are always in need of volunteers in a variety of capacities whether you can give a week to camp, help with fundraising, or donate items that are needed each year for camp! We need you!
Help give siblings their right to reunite!!
Our volunteer family consists of a mosaic of individuals from all walks of life including former youth in care, foster and adoptive parents, kinship providers, Court Appointed Special Advocates, social workers, IT industry, retired business entrepreneurs , teachers, coaches, college students, people who could not imagine life without their siblings, stay at home parents and professionals in other government, corporate and community service sectors.
Karyn Schimmels, who spearheads the northwest camp, has put together a program that is breathtaking in its ability to provide fun and bonding in a safe and happy setting. Karyn is always involved in recruiting volunteers and has one of the highest returning counselor rates among all member camps. The ratio of adults to campers is about 2 to 1 or 3 to 1. There are a lot of adult eyes watching out for these kids. It gives the kids a chance to safely create new and better memories than those with which they have lived.
